Gasquet Advances To Round Of 8

Richard Gasquet has made it to the round of 8 in the ongoing Aegon Championships. He got better of the Australian player Bernard Tomic on his birthday yesterday and went one step closer to the title. The Frenchman won the match in three sets by 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

This is Gasquet’s best performance in the three tournaments that he has participated in recently. After getting rid of his back injury, he had featured in the French Open and the Gerry Weber Open, but, had suffered defeats in the earlier stages in both those tournaments. So, he would be quite relieved to reach the quarter final round here at Queen’s Club. He would want some success under his belt before the Wimbledon Championships start.

The match between Gasquet and Tomic went on for about 100 minutes and the Frenchman was on top for the most parts. His serve during the whole match was good and that’s clear indication that he is getting his form back.

Gasquet has been the champion at Queen’s Club on a couple of occasions before. He had won the title consecutively here in 2005 and in 2006. He would not mind at all lifting his third trophy at the venue this time around as that would get him into a great shape for the Wimbledon.

Tomic, on the other hand, couldn’t excel in all departments of the game. He was also good on his serve like his opponent, but, his return shots were not bang on and he had to pay the price for that.

Speaking in the post match interview, the 21-year old Aussie, “To win matches, it’s important to convert the break points, but, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do that today.”

Tomic is currently outside top 80 in the world rankings.
